The Lamp
Goal
Illuminate a surface without direct light to the eyes.
The lamp to change form when illuminated. The light source is a part of the lamps form, when it is switched on, the object feels as if it has transformed.
Process
I rendered the lamp on rhino. Each layer of the lamp was exported to Illustrator and laser cut into acrylic. I then assembled the layers together and fixed small LED bulbs to the inside in order to achieve even lighting throughout the layers. The inside round layers are made of clear acrylic that I sandblasted in order to diffuse the light and create a more even glow. The square layers are made of solid black acrylic.
